To South Peak Owners, from Pat Bahr, General Manager of South Peak Resort

Dear South Peak Resort Owners,

Many thanks to Governor Lynch, Loon management, all contractors and utility company employees who have made such quick progress, working through nights, on repairs this past week. The following is a summary of the current status of area, Loon and South Peak repairs and traffic flow.

Kancamagus Highway opens Sunday in time for the Highland Games and fall foliage!

Concerning Loon International Bridge repairs:

  • The temporary pedestrian bridge to Loon from Route 112 is in place. Loon and Mountain Club employees, bicycles and pedestrians will access their property over that bridge starting this weekend.
  • The temporary pedestrian bridge will be removed beginning about September 20th with the goal to have it down by October 1st.
  • During the first few weeks of October, the 100 foot section of the bridge that collapsed will be removed.
  • The temporary, vehicular Acrow bridge will then be constructed with the intent to have it in place by November 18th. This two lane bridge will be used throughout ski season for access to Loon. Removal of this bridge and reconstruction of the permanent bridge to Loon should begin around May 1, 2012.

Traffic flow at South Peak:

  • Trucks are being directed over South Peak Road to reduce flow on Crooked Mountain Road. We will upgrade South Peak Road beginning next week to allow all vehicles to use that road during repairs to the 3 sided bridge on Crooked Mountain Road west of Pemi Base Camp.
  • Loon is staffing our roads on weekends and peak periods to direct traffic and monitor speed.
  • Extra 20 mph signs are posted along Crooked Mountain Road.

Highland Games will occur in same manner as previous years except that two buses for the handicapped will go through South Peak.

Reminders:

  • JE Henry trail is closed until repairs are made.
  • No parking along South Peak Resort roadsides – towing is being enforced.

We are thankful for such a great working relationship with Loon and we all appreciate your patience and understanding. Please email me if you have any questions and I will respond as soon as possible.

Best Regards,

Pat Bahr
